Learn more about thermals & base layers
- Base layers, Thermal Layers and moisture wicking
Base Layers are designed specifically to be worn next to the skin and should have excellent moisture wicking properties, moving any sweat away via capillary action from your skin to reduce any evaporative cooling and keeping you from becoming a sweaty clammy mess!
Thermal layers will also have moisture wicking properties to help transport sweat away from the body, but the key difference is that they are designed to trap more heat by providing more insulation.
To improve the capillary action (wicking) modern synthetic materials are designed using hydrophobic and hydrophilic fabrics that both pull and push water molecules away from the skin. Further improvements can be made by engineering the shape of each fibre to allow for channels to further facilitate capillary action.
In addition to their moisture wicking properties paddling layers are soft, stretchy, light weight, don't absorb and retain water and are quick drying for a warmer more comfortable paddle!
- What is Polygiene Odour Control technology?
Polygiene are a company that specialise in antibacterial technology inhibits the growth of odor-causing bacteria, so garments need less washing, saving water, energy and wear and tear.
Fabrics are treated with a solution based on silver chloride, a salt that is naturally present in water and soil. The silver ions in the salt make it impossible for the bacteria responsible for bad smells to multiply, stopping odor in its tracks This advanced antibacterial solution is integrated into the fabric, so freshness is built-in for the lifetime of the garment.
