Discover the Wave Sport Hydra Series

If you're looking for a kayak that strikes the perfect balance between performance, comfort, and versatility, the Wave Sport Hydra series should be on your radar. Designed for paddlers who crave adventure the Hydra range offers something special whatever your skill level.

The Hydra 125 and Hydra 145 are both packed with smart features, but they’re tailored for slightly different paddlers and purposes.

The Hydra 125 is the more compact option—a brilliantly balanced kayak that bridges the gap between recreational ease and touring performance. It’s an ideal choice for paddlers looking to level up their adventures, and it’s also easier to store and transport thanks to its smaller footprint. We've found the Hydra 125 to be a confident and capable step up for those moving on from a more recreational kayak. It offers just the right blend of stability and performance, with a host of upgraded features that let you explore further and push your paddling without feeling out of your depth. More experienced paddlers shouldn’t overlook it either—Wave Sport have managed to pack a surprising amount of performance and fun into the compact frame of the 125 and as a sporty rock hopping sea boat provided some big smiles from our test team.

The Hydra 145, with its added length and volume, isn’t just about extra space—it’s the more energetic of the two on the water. We’ve found it to be quick, lively, and responsive, making it a real pleasure to paddle, especially for those with more experience. It’s a fantastic choice for longer days out, coastal adventures, or paddlers who want a bit more speed and performance without sacrificing stability or comfort.

Both the Hydra 125 and 145 share the same thoughtful design, comfort-focused outfitting, and adventure-ready build, but they shine in slightly different ways. The 125 is a confident and capable choice for paddlers stepping up from recreational boats—stable, feature-rich, and easy to grow into. The 145, on the other hand, brings more speed, agility, range and load carrying capacity, making it ideal for those looking to cover more distance or undertake multi days trips or take on bigger water with confidence.

Both models come loaded with thoughtful features that set them apart:

• Comfort-first outfitting: The Hydra’s CORE seating system doesn’t just look good—it performs. With a ratchet-adjustable leg lifter, hip pads, keeper footrest, and supportive thigh grips, it’s one of the most comfortable and adjustable setups around. We often hear how much paddlers love it, and it’s a real standout compared to other boats in this class.

• Smart storage: With a day hatch positioned just in front of the cockpit, plus spacious bow and stern storage, both models make it easy to pack for longer days or multi-day trips.

• Solid tracking, playful spirit: The Hydra tracks well across distance and come with a drop down skeg operated from a slider on the left-hand side of the cockpit. It has that touch of playfulness – especially the 145 - when you want to carve or edge—making it just as fun on a short blast as it is over a long paddle. It’s not the most manoeuvrable in its category but does offer more speed than some other similar options.

• Tailored fit options: Both the Hydra 125 and 145 are available in Low Volume (LV) and Standard versions, so smaller or lighter paddlers can enjoy the same performance with a better, more confident fit.

You don’t have to take our word for it. We’ve got both the Hydra 125 and 145—LV and Standard models—available for free on-the-water demos right here at the shop. Whether you’re stepping up your paddling game or looking for a boat that can keep pace with your adventures, the Wave Sport Hydra series is definitely worth a try on the water.

We’ve taken the Hydra’s out in several different location and weather/water conditions and have been impressed with its abilities, and best of all—we’ve got them ready for you to try. Come by the shop, chat with us, and take one out on the water. We think you’ll be impressed.
